Designated Hospitals

We have 4 designated hospitals in the region where patients who are aged 19-24 can choose to have their treatment locally instead of travelling to the Principal Treatment Centre (PTC) in Leicester or Nottingham. Each of these designated hospitals have a specific area for TYA patients that provides age appropriate facilities for patients to use whilst they are having their treatment.

The Designated Hospitals are

· Northampton General Hospital

· Kettering General Hospital

· Royal Derby Hospital

· Lincoln County Hospital

The TYA Service will offer support to you wherever you are. You will be contacted by a member of the team to arrange a home visit or to meet in a place of your choice. This may be in hospital if you are unwell.

You will be able to access all of the social, educational, psychological and residential activities and support that are provided by the service. We use social networking and the website to advertise these activities and any other opportunities, such as free tickets for concerts and sporting events that are donated by various charitable sources.

Each designated hospital also has a selection of electronic entertainment which is solely for TYA patients aged 19 – 24 to use when onsite having treatment.

Should you choose to go to the Principal Treatment Centre, your local team will liaise with the relevant people at the Principal Treatment Centre to ensure a safe and speedy transfer, beds and outpatients appointments allowing. A member of the Teenage and Young Adult service will meet you on arrival. This is usually a member of the ward based nursing team on the Teenage Cancer Trust Unit, the Teenage and Young Adult Clinical Nurse Specialist or the CLIC Sargent Social Worker.
